For those chasing the perfect wind and pristine waters, the world offers a myriad of incredible kitesurfing destinations. From tropical paradises to wind-swept coastal gems, here are some of the best kitesurfing spots around the globe, of which I have visited the most myself already. 1. Cumbuco, Brazil Known as the kitesurfing capital of Brazil, Cumbuco is a dream destination for kite enthusiasts. Why Visit? With consistent trade winds from June to December, this charming village offers perfect conditions for beginners and pros alike. Its flat lagoons (Cauipe and Tabuba) are ideal for freestyle tricks, while the open ocean waves cater to everybody. The city is perfect for solo travelers offering many restaurants and bars within the city center which is within walking distance from almost every place. Cumbuco is not too far from the Airport (Fortaleza) and can be reached with a taxi or Uber for under 50€. Please be aware that Brasilians usually do not speak english. Bonus: Explore the famous Cauípe Lagoon for a kiting sessionwith a buggy or downwind to it. If you travel on a budget Uber driver will take you there as well. 2. Cape Town, South Africa Cape Town is a bucket-list destination for kitesurfers worldwide. Why Visit? From November to March, Cape Town’s iconic “Cape Doctor” wind delivers reliable and strong conditions, especially at Bloubergstrand. With the iconic Table Mountain as a backdrop, it’s a surreal spot to ride the waves. Small kites are needed here! Be aware of cold water Bonus: Big Bay is perfect for wave riding, while Langebaan Lagoon offers calm, beginner-friendly waters. If you want to see the pro riders ripping it make sure to visit Cape Town during the red-bull king of the air event window 3. Tarifa, Spain Nestled at the southern tip of Spain, Tarifa is Europe’s ultimate kitesurfing hub. Why Visit? Thanks to its location at the Strait of Gibraltar, Tarifa enjoys year-round winds—Levante and Poniente—that cater to all skill levels. The vibe here is electric, with a mix of lively beach culture and great nightlife. Watch the pros going crazy at the Pier! Bonus: Tarifa’s wide sandy beaches, such as Playa de Valdevaqueros, provide plenty of space to launch and ride. 4. Cabarete, Dominican Republic Cabarete is the Caribbean’s kitesurfing paradise, known for its vibrant atmosphere and stunning beaches. Why Visit? With steady trade winds and warm tropical waters, Cabarete is a fantastic spot for both freestyle and wave riders. The main kitesurfing beach, Kite Beach, is lively and welcoming. It has small chop inside the reef and great breaking waves at the reef which is approximately 600 meters from the beach. The dominican republic has a great nightlife! Bonus: Combine kiting with the laid-back Caribbean lifestyle, delicious food, and salsa dancing! 5. Dakhla, Morocco Dakhla offers a unique mix of desert landscapes and perfect kitesurfing conditions. Why Visit? The Dakhla Lagoon provides flat, shallow waters and reliable winds nearly all year round, making it ideal for beginners and freestyle enthusiasts. Advanced riders can explore nearby wave spots for a more challenging ride. Bonus: The serene environment, combined with luxury eco-camps, makes Dakhla a tranquil getaway. 6. Le Morne, Mauritius Le Morne is a tropical paradise with world-class kitesurfing conditions. Why Visit? Located on Mauritius’ southwest coast, Le Morne offers something for everyone: flat water inside the lagoon, steady winds, and epic wave spots at One Eye for experienced riders. There are different reefs providing wave levels for almost every kitesurfing level. You can either stay directly in a hotel near the spot or you can rent an apartment in a nearby city and use a rental car to drive to the spot. Bonus: The UNESCO-listed Le Morne Brabant mountain creates a breathtaking backdrop for your kiting sessions and is with a hike on a no wind day. 7. El Gouna, Egypt El Gouna is a kitesurfing haven on the Red Sea, combining great conditions with luxurious resorts. Why Visit? With consistent winds, flat water lagoons, and crystal-clear seas, El Gouna is perfect for beginners and intermediate riders. The area’s well-equipped kite centers make learning a breeze. For me it is one of the most enjoyable cities in this area due to a more european appearance.
